« La Beauté du Geste » film Japonais de Sho Miyake
Je n’aime pas la boxe… ou plus précisément, c’est un sport que je ne connais pas du tout et qui ne m’attire pas…
Je ne connais pas le monde des sourds et malentendants…
Je ne parle pas le japonais…
J’aime les musiques de films…
Tout aurait pu concourir à me faire fuir dès les premières images de ce film qui évoque quelques moments de la vie d’une jeune fille boxeuse professionnelle sourde… Et pourtant : dès les premières minutes, on est emporté dans le monde de cette adolescente, Keiko. On s’apitoie sur son sentiment de grande solitude et on l’accompagne tout au long du film en espérant qu’elle trouve un apaisement, grâce à son sport, grâce à la confiance qu’elle va commencer à acquérir…
On se recueille au bord du fleuve, tout comme elle…
Son sport devient un art, tout comme le film qui est une vraie œuvre d’art. On en sort tout ému.
Oui, l’émotion, c’est bien ce que l’on attend d’une œuvre d’art.
« La beauté du geste » me l’a apportée, cette émotion, de façon inattendue, et c’est ce qui a rendu ce moment précieux.
Merci aux beaux films qui nous emportent vers des destinations où nous n’avons pas l’habitude d’aller !

“The Beauty of the Gesture” Japanese film by Sho Miyake
I don’t like boxing, or more precisely, it’s a sport that I don’t know at all and which doesn’t appeal to me…
I don’t know the world of the deaf and hard of hearing…
I don’t speak Japanese…
I like film music…
Everything could have conspired to scare me away from the first images of this film which evokes moments in the life of a young deaf professional boxer. And yet, from the first minutes, we are carried away into the world of this teenager, Keiko. We feel sorry for her feeling of great loneliness and we accompany her throughout the film, hoping that she finds peace, thanks to her sport, thanks to the confidence that she will begin to acquire.
We gather by the river, just like her…
Her sport becomes an art, just like film which is a true work of art. We come away quite moved.
Yes, emotion is what we expect from a work of art.
“The beauty of the gesture” brought it to me, this emotion, in an unexpected way, and that’s what made this moment precious.
Thank you to the beautiful films that take us to destinations where we are not used to going!

I liked this film as much as you did. It took me a while to understand that I had seen it under another English title “Small, Slow but Steady”. It broufht back warm memories of the story of Keiko. Thank you!
